Nivea is the first in a series of cosmetic products from the international concern Beiersdorf AG in Hamburg, Germany.The first product in the line was Nivea Creme (Nivea cream), which was launched in December 1911. The co-inventors of the cream were chemist Isaak Lifschütz, dermatologist Paul Unna and Oskar Troplowitz, pharmacist, owner of Beiersdorf, born in 1863 in Gliwice, Poland. They used water, oil, glycerin, citric acid and a new ingredient - eucerite. This enabled the unprecedented, namely to combine water and oil into a long-lasting stable base - cream. The resulting product was named Nivea, derived from Latin, meaning snow white.
